Amelia H. Leas is a domestic relations attorney who focuses her practice on family law and child custody matters. Amelia has experience on a broad range of divorce and child-related issues, including visitation, complaints for modification and contempt, child support, Department of Children and Families investigations, guardianship petitions, education advocacy, domestic violence, children requiring assistance, and medical decisions.
Prior to joining Prince Lobel, Amelia served for two years as a trial attorney for the Children & Family Law Unit of the Committee for Public Counsel Services, where she represented parents and children in litigation against the Department of Children and Families (DCF). In this role, Amelia appeared in juvenile and probate court to argue evidentiary custody hearings and motions on abuse of discretion, paternity, and visitation. She also filed DCF grievances and represented clients in DCF Fair Hearings, individual education plan (IEP) meetings, and court investigations.
During law school, Amelia practiced as a Rule 3.03 certified student attorney in Boston University’s Civil Litigation Clinic at Greater Boston Legal Services. In her work at the clinic, she acted as co-counsel in a high-profile child custody dispute that involved motions in probate and family court, juvenile court, and appeals court. She also first-chaired a custody trial in Suffolk Probate and Family Court and argued contempt motions on visitation and support in Middlesex Probate and Family Court. Amelia served as a summer law clerk to the Honorable Gail Nichols, Judge of the Ninth Judicial District of Colorado.
