Women Are Succeeding in the Workplace, But Few Are Doing Enough to Secure the Assets They’ve Earned

According to Patricia M. Annino, Chair of the Estate Planning Department at Prince Lobel Glovsky & Tye LLP, when it comes to women and money, the facts are these: women control about 75 percent of the total personal wealth in the United States today. They fill more than half the jobs, earn more than half the college degrees, and make up the fastest-growing sector of new business owners. At the same time, women usually manage household budgets and are often left with the burden of caring for elderly parents or sick family members, which can quickly drain household income.

If there is one thing this economic downturn has taught us it is that you need to be prepared for the unexpected. It is more important than ever for women to take steps to protect all the assets—financial and human—that they have worked so hard to accumulate.
