Rebecca Mutch, an associate in Prince Lobel’s Estate Planning & Probate Practice Group, provided an overview of the basics of drafting Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs). The presentation was geared toward the new estate planning associate or the solo/small firm practitioner. Rebecca introduced attendees to the fundamental ILIT concepts, with a specific focus on estate and gift tax ramifications. Specific topics included: Drafting Considerations, Estate and Gift Tax Considerations, "Crummey" powers, Retaining Flexibility in an Irrevocable Trust, and ILITs in a Time of Estate Tax Repeal.
