Hugh J. Gorman III Quoted in Boston Business Journal Regarding Status of Recent Bankruptcy Filings in Massachusetts

January 5, 2012

According to the article, Chapter 7 filings fell 18 percent in 2011, while Chapter 11 filings were relatively flat from the prior year. Hugh Gorman, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, said that the economy will determine whether the number of Chapter 11 filings stays flat in 2012 or sees a drastic increase. “Many business have been doing whatever they can to weather the storm of the current economic times and to stay out of the bankruptcy courts,” he said. “These efforts may not be sustainable. In the event positive economic changes fail to take hold in the first quarter of 2012, you will see additional business failures and Chapter 11 filings.”
