Bertsche is quoted in a story about the Peabody School Committee voting behind
closed doors to grant merit pay to the school superintendent. For more than
three months, The Salem News requested
minutes from ten meetings that were not open to the public, and has since filed a
complaint with the attorney general.
Recently,
some minutes were made available, but they provided few details. Rob said that the
limited information included the minutes could raise legal questions about the
committee's effort to act in good faith under the Open Meeting Law.
"They
told the paper for months that they had to transcribe (the minutes); they had
to go through them; they had to approve them. It was a big, difficult ordeal to
produce these," he said
