Partner
Jeffrey A. Dretler is a partner in Prince Lobel’s Employment Law Group. Jeff focuses his practice on representing management in state and federal courts and administrative agencies against claims brought by current or former employees alleging discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, civil rights, and wage and hour issues.
Jeff also counsels employers regarding reasonable accommodation, independent contractor law, workplace investigations, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and he also drafts noncompetition agreements, severance agreements, and personnel manuals. Jeff’s clients span a broad range of industries with a particular focus on health care, media, and hospitality. In addition to employment law, Jeff handles a variety of other types of civil litigation.
Some of Jeff’s recent successes include:
- Winning summary judgments in favor of two of the Commonwealth’s largest teaching hospitals in matters involving: (1) age and national origin discrimination claims brought by a current employee, and (2) disability discrimination and retaliation claims brought by a former employee, and successfully defending both judgments in the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
- Counseling a quasi-public agency on how to conduct an internal investigation concerning claims brought by a current employee of unfair treatment based on national origin and gender.
- Conducting training regarding the Massachusetts tip pooling law for one of the Commonwealth’s largest sports and entertainment venues.
- Defeating three separate lawsuits brought in Land Court and Superior Court by a plaintiff seeking title by adverse possession of his neighbor’s land and securing an award of attorney’s fees and costs against the plaintiff and his attorney under Rule 11 and M.G.L. c. 231, § 6F.
Prior to joining Prince Lobel, Jeff practiced litigation at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo. He also served as an assistant district attorney with the Suffolk County (MA) District Attorney’s Office and as a law clerk to Judge William G. Young of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Jeff is an active member of the Anti-Defamation League’s New England Regional Board of Directors and recently served on the board of the Human Resources Council.
In September 2010, Jeff was named employer co-chair of the national programs sub-committee of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section. In 2009, Jeff was vice chair of that sub-committee, which is responsible for developing and executing the section’s national continuing legal education teleconferences, webinars, and other educational programming.
