Donald G. Tye

Donald G. Tye is co-chair of Prince Lobel Glovsky & Tye's Domestic Relations Practice Group. Donald is a trial attorney whose practice focuses on civil, probate and domestic relations litigation, as well as appeals. He has more than 30 years of experience as an attorney, guardian ad litem, master, mediator, arbitrator, author, and lecturer.
Before joining Prince Lobel, Donald was a partner with White Inker Aronson (frequently known as Crane & Inker), a prominent Boston law firm, where he was involved in all phases of litigation, with an emphasis on trial and appeals of complex domestic relations matters.
The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) has elected Donald a certified fellow, and he has served that organization nationally as co-chair of its legislation committee. He has also been elected to both local and national leadership positions, including serving as president of its Massachusetts chapter from 2005-2007. In 1998 and 2004, that chapter honored Donald with their President’s Award. In December 2008, Donald received certification as a Family Law Arbitrator by the AAML Training Institute.
In 2006, Donald was appointed co-chair of the Family Law Curriculum Advisory Committee of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) and has been a committee member since 1999. Since 2006, Donald has been chair of MCLE’s annual “Divorce
Summit,” and has been a faculty member for their program: “How to Try Divorce
Cases.”
Donald is also a member of the Family Law Section of the American and Boston, MA Bar Associations. He was appointed to the Boston Bar Association’s Family Law Section Council in 1999 and 2008-2009, and co-chaired their Continuing Legal Education Committee from 1999-2001.
Since 2004, Donald has been recognized as a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” as featured in Boston magazine. In November 2009, he was recognized as a "Top 100 Massachusetts Super Lawyer,” and also a "Super Lawyer" in the area of Family Law. Donald has also been named a “Top Attorney in New England” by New England Super Lawyers in 2009.
Donald was the co-editor of the “Domestic Relations” chapter in Summary of Basic Law, a selection of the Massachusetts Practice Series (published by West Publishing Company), and editor of the “Divorce” chapter in the Massachusetts Bar Association publication, Traps for the Unwary. In 2008, Donald was principal editor of the text “How To Try Divorce Cases in Massachusetts,” published by MCLE.
As a member of the board of editors of Massachusetts Lawyers’ Weekly, (where he is now editor emeritus), he has written numerous editorials on subjects relating to domestic relations law and policies. His work has also been featured in publications such as The Massachusetts Family Law Journal, Boston Bar Journal, Family Advocate, and Best of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Journal.
A frequent lecturer and panelist, Donald has taught, given lectures, and conducted workshops and seminars in the areas of trial practice and divorce and child-related issues at Harvard Law School, Boston College Law School, Suffolk University School of Law, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and its Family Law Institute, Brown University Medical Center, Boston University Graduate School of Social Work, American Psychological Association, Boston Public Schools (Partners in Education, Inc.), the Maine, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers, Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation and the Massachusetts Association of Guardians Ad Litem.
Active in the community, Donald has also served as a director of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Ford Hall Forum, Lyric Stage Theatre Repertory Company and the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. He was appointed to the Anti-Defamation League’s National Law Committee and is a member of the executive committee of its New England Region’s Civil Rights Committee. For many years, Donald has reviewed human-service grant requests for the United Way of Massachusetts and IOLTA grant requests for the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, where he is a lifetime fellow.
