Donald G. Tye is co-chair and partner in the firm’s Domestic Relations Practice Group. He is a trial attorney whose practice focuses on civil, probate and domestic relations litigation, and appeals. Donald has more than 25 years’ experience as an attorney, guardian ad litem, master, mediator, arbitrator, author, and lecturer.
Prior to joining Prince, Lobel, Glovsky & Tye, he was a partner with another prominent Boston law firm, where he was involved in all phases of litigation, with emphasis in trial and appeals of complex domestic relations matters. Donald has achieved recognition for his expertise through his election as a Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and his election to leadership positions, both local and national. He has served that organization nationally as co-chair of its Legislation Committee. The Massachusetts chapter (of which he serves as President, 2005-2007) honored Donald with its 1998 and 2004 “President’s Award.” He was appointed co-chair in 2006 of the Family Law Curriculum Advisory Committee of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and has been a committee member since 1999. He is also a member of the Family Law Section of the Boston, Massachusetts (where he has been appointed to leadership positions), and the American Bar Associations. Donald was recognized as a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” in 2004 - 2007, as featured in Boston magazine, where he was also named one of the “Top 100 Massachusetts Super Lawyers.” Donald was the co-editor of the “Domestic Relations” chapter in Summary of Basic Law, a selection of the Massachusetts Practice Series (published by West Publishing Company) and editor of the “Divorce” chapter in the Massachusetts Bar Association publication, “Traps for the Unwary.” As a member of the Board of Editors of Massachusetts Lawyers’ Weekly, (where he is now Editor Emeritus) he has written numerous editorials on subjects relating to domestic relations law and policies. His work has also been featured in such publications as The Massachusetts Family Law Journal, Boston Bar Journal, Family Advocate, and Best of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Journal.
A frequent lecturer and panelist, Donald has taught, lectured at, and conducted workshops and seminars in the areas of trial practice, and divorce and child-related issues at Harvard Law School; Boston College Law School; Suffolk University School of Law; Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and its Family Law Institute; Brown University Medical Center; Boston University Graduate School of Social Work; American Psychological Association; Boston Public Schools (Partners in Education, Inc.) the Maine, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations; and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the Massachusetts Association of Guardians Ad Litem.
Active in the community, Donald has also served as a Director of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Ford Hall Forum, Lyric Stage Theatre Repertory Company, Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, and was appointed to the Anti-Defamation League’s National Law Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee of its New England Region’s Civil Rights Committee. In addition, for many years he has reviewed human-service grant requests for the United Way of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, where he is a Lifetime Fellow.
