Kristin M.
Knuuttila is a skilled litigator with more than 15 years of experience. Kristin
has the unique ability to see the big picture while also paying strict
attention to the details that can make or break a case. She develops creative
solutions to even the most challenging problems, allowing her to help
businesses and individuals resolve their disputes efficiently and effectively.
Kristin represents
clients in state and federal courts and administrative agencies in Massachusetts. In addition, she has tried cases at the
Superior Court and Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and has
authored briefs for the Supreme
Judicial Court and the Massachusetts Court of
Appeals.
Kristin
specializes in complex business disputes involving claims ranging from breach
of contract to violations of G.L. c. 93A and contractual indemnification. Kristin also focuses a significant amount of
her practice on catastrophic injury, death and other personal injury, and tort
cases. Her clients include a public
authority as well as large and small companies in a wide variety of industries
including telecommunications, insurance, biopharmaceutical, legal, retail,
manufacturing, advertising, and media. From
the smallest start-up company to the largest corporation, Kristin works closely
with her clients setting goals – beginning with a litigation budget – and achieving
them.
Always a
proponent of learning how the “other side” thinks, Kristin has honed her
litigation skills representing plaintiffs.
In a race discrimination case involving first impressions of law,
Kristin secured a judgment on behalf of her client who faced public humiliation
at the hands of his supervisor. In a
personal injury case, she settled for more than two million dollars on behalf
of her client who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Kristin
recently secured a substantial settlement on behalf of the single mother of a
young boy whose father was killed in a car accident while the boy was in
utero.
Kristin is also
an advocate for women and children. Since
2005, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Childrens’
Center, a nonprofit childcare center.
For three years, she was the president of CCC’s Board. She has also served on the Board of Visitors
for the Women’s Educational and Industrial Union and Suited for Success, two
nonprofit groups dedicated to women’s issues.
Kristin has
taught deposition practice skills and legal writing to participants of the
Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and Massachusetts Bar Association
workshops. She authored articles for the
Massachusetts Bar Association’s Section Review.
From 2005
through 2007, Boston magazine recognized Kristin as a
