Patricia M. Annino Partner

Patricia M. Annino chairs Prince Lobel’s Estate Planning and Probate Group. She is a nationally recognized authority on estate planning and taxation, with more than 25 years of experience serving the estate planning needs of families, individuals, and owners of closely held businesses. A member of the firm’s Media and Intellectual Property Group, she represents authors, artists, and musicians in estate planning and probate matters.

Patricia is the author of two widely utilized professional texts: Estate Planning in Massachusetts, part of West Publishing Company’s Massachusetts Practice Series, and Taxwise Planning for Aging, Ill, or Incapacitated Clients, published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

She is also author of the “Federal Gift Tax, a chapter in A Practical Guide to Estate Planning in Massachusetts, published by MCLE, and author of Educating the Client in Estate Planning,” a chapter in New Strategies for Estate Planning: Leading Lawyers on Working with Clients, Updating Traditional Strategies, and Responding to Recent Legal and Economic Developments (Inside the Minds), Thomson Reuters (2009). 

In April 2011, Patricia published her updated edition of Women and Money: A Practical Guide to Estate Planning. This latest edition incorporates the changes to the current laws and provides a wealth of additional information to both educate and empower the reader.

Patricia's other published books include, Cracking the $$ Code: What Successful Men Know and You Don’t (Yet) (2009), Women in Family Business: What Keeps You up at Night?(2009), and Women & Money, A Practical Guide to Estate Planning (2004).

Patricia has been quoted extensively in a wide variety of local and national publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Dallas Morning News, Chicago Tribune, Marketwatch, Investors.com, and Women’s Business Journal on the topic of estate planning. She has acted as the estate planning consultant to the independent investment research provider, Morningstar, and has been interviewed on Bloomberg Television.

The breadth and depth of Patricia’s  expertise in the areas of inheritance law, trust law, and common law in issues related to real property and intangible property interests, has resulted in her being retained to testify as an expert witness in high-stakes divorce cases where trusts and other inherited assets are at issue.  Her opinions have been favorably relied upon by the probate and family court when she has testified.

While earning her master's degree in taxation at Boston University, she was a member of The Boston University Journal of Tax Law. At Bentley College, she has taught “Estate and Gift Taxation” in the Masters in Taxation program, and “Estate Planning” in the Masters in Financial Planning program.

She has conducted more than 100 seminars for public and private organizations, including the CEO Women’s Group, IBM Corporation, Fidelity Investments, National Tax Institute, Mellon Bank, Liberty Mutual, MFS, the American, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations, the Massachusetts Bankers Association, John Hancock Life Insurance Company, the Harvard Business School Alumni Association, and many others.

She has participated in a nationally broadcast teleconference call arranged by the U.S. Department of Labor titled “Estate Planning for Women” and a nationally broadcast teleconference call arranged by the American Bar Associates (ABA) titled “Should Your Trusted Adviser Be Your Trustee?” 

An Accredited Estate Planner (AEP), Patricia has received the highest  rating, AV Preeminent, from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Since 2008, Patricia has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America and Boston's Best Lawyers in the specialty of Trusts and Estates. 

In February 2011, Patricia became a regular contributor to Wealth Management Insider, a monthly e-newsletter published by the American Institute of CPAs. She writes regularly on topics such as estate planning, investment planning, real estate, eldercare, and more.

In January 2011, Patricia was selected to join the Women’s Philanthropy Institute Council. WPI, part of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, is the nation’s premier philanthropy institute. WPI engages and assists donors, those who serve philanthropists, such as development officers and financial advisors, and those who study philanthropy, including research scholars, educators, and students. In April 2010, Patricia was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). ACTEC selects attorneys on the basis of professional reputation and their skills in the field of trusts and estates. Fellows in the College have made substantial contributions to these fields through lecturing, writing, teaching and bar activities.

Since 2004, Patricia has been recognized as a "“Super Lawyer” in the area of Estate Planning & Probate, as published in Boston magazine. In 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011, she was selected in that poll as one of the top 50 female lawyers in Massachusetts. Since 2005, Patricia has been named a "Best Lawyer in America" and a "Best Lawyer in Boston" (Woodward/White) in the field of Trusts and Estates.

In 2007, Patricia was voted by her peers in the Boston Estate Planning Council as “Estate Planner of the Year.” She has also been named an expert in the field of Trusts and Estates in the 2010 edition of Legal Media Group’s Expert Guides. 

Patricia has a long record of service in professional and community organizations. She is a member of Boston Estate Planning Council Board of Directors, and a member of the Cotting School Medical and Senior Advisory Board. Patricia also devotes considerable time and expertise to Winchester Hospital, where she has been elected as Chair of the Winchester Hospital Professional Advisory Committee, Director of the Board of the Winchester Hospital Foundation Inc., and serves as a Corporator of Winchester Healthcare Management Inc.

Patricia is also deeply committed to the colleges and universities she attended during her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. In July 2011, in keeping with her longstanding dedication to Suffolk Law School, and having previously served on its board of directors, Patricia was named president of the Suffolk Law School Alumni Association. She has also served Suffolk University as a member of its Board of Visitors and as a member of the law school's Dean's Advisory Council.

In 2009, Patricia received Suffolk University Law School’s “Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award.” This annual award is presented to a Suffolk University Law School graduate who has made a significant contribution to both society and the legal profession. 

Patricia is also a member of the Smith College President's Council and its Center for Women and Financial Independence, and a former president of the Alumni President’s Council of Independent Secondary Schools. She was the recipient of the 1988 Distinguished Alumna Award from Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart and is a past president of its alumnae association.

Patricia also lends her considerable talent and expertise in the practice areas of corporate and media law, making her an invaluable resource to both her colleagues at the firm and to many of Prince Lobel’s clients.
